This program provides students with the opportunity to learn about the internationalization of trade in Latin America and its impact on development. The study of business strategies is a central part of the program, in particular the adoption of Corporate Social Responsibility policies aimed to create value, to manage risk and to improve governance. Public-Private Partnerships for Development are a key aspect of the program, supplemented with site visits to relevant organizations and business for experiential learning. The language of instruction is English, and the program is further complemented by a Spanish course tailored for business students.
In the field of Corporate Social Responsibility, ICDS’s program embodies five different areas of action: Understanding and Promotion, Professional Training, Research, Consultant Services and Special Programs. Within each of these areas of actions, ICDS’s unique orientation is clear, as ICDS emphasizes such specific topics as CSR as a factor in increased competitiveness, CSR and labor development, CSR and the environment, CSR and community development, CSR and organizational processes and implementation, and CSR and dialogue processes for stakeholder participation.
With a strong base of institutional knowledge, experience and “know-how” built on years of work in the fields of human development in the Central American region, ICDS has the skills and abilities to be able to work with small and medium – sized companies, multinational corporations, non-governmental organizations and academic institutions in the field of CSR and its implementation. ICDS is developing an up-to-date database of case studies, lessons learned and best practices related to the implementation of the exercise of CSR in Central America, as well as participating in various conferences and publishing internationally in the field. The quality of services of ICDS’s CSR Program, including the development of CSR-related academic curriculum is backed by the collaboration and commitment of a strong team of staff and consultants of solid academic formation, years of professional experience and field work that actively participate in the public and private-sector arenas in Central America.
