Study Abroad in Costa Rica during Summer Session II

This joint program with Universidad Latina de Costa Rica and Hospital Clínica Bíblica offers students the opportunity to explore health care in a developing country while furthering their Spanish language skills and gaining an understanding of the life and culture of Costa Rica. ICDS´ six-week program provides health professionals and university students in the area of health with the necessary language proficiency to enable them to work and interact with Spanish speaking patients and their families, as well as with colleagues in a Spanish-speaking environment.

  • Overview of the health systems in Latin America, particularly Costa Rica’s
  • Experiential learning in the field of health in hospital and university environments
  • Clinical Rotations for advanced Spanish Speakers,* and community work for lower and intermediate Spanish speakers
  • Spanish for health sciences
  • Classes taught at Hospital Clínica Bíblica and Universidad Latina campus
    *(Limited spots-Spanish test required before program starts)


  • Minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Completion of basic level(s) of college Spanish or equivalent
  • For clinical rotations: complete ICDS’ oral and written test to verify Spanish proficiency
